Insulin

  • Scientific name: Chamaecostus cuspidatus
  • Place of origin: Brazil.
  • Description: Herbaceous plant with large fleshy looking leaves with a purple shaded underside. Bears orange flowers  that are sweet and nutritious.
  • Grow best: In well-drained soil, in bright sunlight or partial shade and moderate watering. Propagation is by seeds, stem or rhizome cuttings.
  • Use: Leaves used in Ayurveda as they are believed to have anti-diabetic properties.
