Thirunur Pachai

  • Scientific name: Ocimum basilicum
  • Place of origin: India (for more than 5000years) and other parts of Asia.
  • Description: Herbaceous, with lettuce like fragrant, pungent and sweet tasting leaves used in pastas and salads.
  • Grow best: Flowers are white tinged with purple. Grows well in full sunlight and ample warmth in well-drained compost soil with careful watering. Propagation by seeds.
  • Use: In pots. Leaves are valued condiments in all kinds of cooking.
