  • Place of origin: America.
  • Description:  Named ‘reed’ or ‘cane’ (Latin –Canna) these flowering shrubs are perennial with rhizomes, bear broad flat leaves and the flowers are bright red, orange or yellow inflorescences. Varieties can grow to 2m. Dwarf hybrids available.
  • Grow best: In bright sunlight, in well-drained soil with moderate watering. Propagation is by rhizomes.
  • Use:  Mostly outdoors in landscaping borders and hedges. Seeds are used as beads in jewellery making.
