- Place of origin: Central and South America
- Description: Small, twiggy perennial flowering shrub of 75cm -1m height. Produces showy yellow upright bracts on a single raceme, which hold white flowers. It sends out underground runners and in a few years will spread. The plant is popular with butterflies and birds.
- Grow best: Water moderately. Propagate with stem cuttings. They grow in well-drained soil but, prefer a soil with an acid reaction, thus attaining maximum leaf size and coloring. Regular pruning for healthy growth required.
- Use: Place in semi-shade. May be used as borders.
