Areca Palm

  • Scientific name:  Chrysalidocarpus lutescens/ Areca lutescens/ Dypsis lutescens
  • Place of origin: Madagascar.
  • Description:  Generally these palms have feathery, arching fronds with about 100 leaflets each giving a bushy appearance. Fronds are arranged close to one another in neat compact lines along the stems.
  • Grow best: Easy to care for in partial shade, in chalky, loamy, sandy and well-draining soil that is moist but well-drained. Water only till soil is evenly moist. Fertilize with a palm fertilizer rich in potassium and Magnesium.
  • Use: A popular palm for brightening indoor spaces in the home or offices. The Areca Palm is extremely popular as indoor plant because of its ability to filter and clean air.
