Bismarckia

  • Scientific name:  Bismarckia nobilis
  • Place of origin: Madagascar.
  • Description:  Flowering palm about 12m to 25m, with solitary gray trunks with ringed indentations from old leaf bases. The leaves are nearly rounded and enormous, silver-blue with a fan-like appearance. The small brown inflorescence mature to a single-seeded brown ovoid drupe.
  • Grow best:  In well-draining soil in bright sunlight and plenty of water. Stems should not be covered by soil to prevent soil organisms from eating the stem. Propagation by seed.
  • Use:  Ornamental.
