ARALIA

 

  • Place of origin: Asia, Americas.
  • Description: Covers 60 species of deciduous or evergreen trees, shrubs and rhizamatous herbaceous perennials. Sizes vary from 50cm to 20m. Leaves, some creamy coloured are doubly compounded with some stems prickly. Flowers are whitish or greenish on terminal panicles, and bear blue or purple berries.
  • Grow best: By cuttings from sucker roots in well-draining soil and positioned in partial shade; water only when required.
  • Use: Some like A. cordata are edible; most are excellent indoor plants.
