  • Scientific name: Duranta erecta
  • Place of origin: Mexico, South America.
  • Description: A flowering , thorny shrub of about 6m, that is an invasive weed with light blue showy flowers in clusters blooming all the year round and small orange poisonous berries.
  • Grow best: As a shrub outdoors in semi-shade. Slow -fertilizers help encourage prolific flowering and fruiting. Water frequently while taking root. Water sparely after the plant is established, just enough to keep the soil moist.
  • Use: Ornamental plant for its attractive flowers. Outdoors, the blue flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
