  • Place of origin: Mexico, Central America


  • Description: Tree growing to 6m with small white flowers and pear-shaped fruits. Native and hybrid varieties with fruit flesh ranging between white to red, bearing seeds or seedless, size from a lime to a cricket ball and round to ovoid shapes.
  • Grow best: In tropical and sub-tropical areas in bright sunlight, in well-drained soil.
  • Use: Fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C and fibre. Can be made into jam.
