• Place of origin: Southern Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean.


  • Description: Evergreen tree with a long life, reaching more than 27 m. Flowers are small and white. The ripe fruit is a deliciously sweet berry.
  • Grow best: In tropical conditions. Takes five to eight years to bear. Full sunlight, any type of well-draining soil. Can survive drought conditions too and needs very little watering.
  • Use: Sapota fruit is rich in sucrose, fructose, vitamins and minerals. Finds use medicinally too as an anti-diarrheal


Gardening Tips:  Easy to care for. Appropriate use of fertilizers for young trees every two or three months for the first year and then less frequently in the subsequent years will enhance the healthy growth.
