Many gardeners ask us about the best garden soil mix for their blooms and
veggies. There are many combinations for potting soil. But I recommend the
following soil combination for optimal plant growth, for your terrace and
balcony plants.
The soil mixture should be well draining in nature. The mixture should be rich
in nutrients and the most important point, as we should not be adding any
extra weight to your buildings structure; the soil should also be light in weight.
These combinations, help the plants to grow to their optimal limit but because
we follow a light weight potting medium, the plants roots also grows quickly
and there will be a lot of aeration in the soil.
The following soil mixture can also be adapted for all container planting.
2 parts garden soil or red soil
2 parts coco peat or peat moss
1 part vermicompost
1 part cow dung compost or leaf mould compost
4 tablespoon of bone meal or seaweed
3 tablespoon of neem powder
This pot mix combination is a great choice for gardeners who want to support
plant growth while keeping things light weight and nutritional. With its ability
to drain well and retain moisture and nutrients, this mix is perfect for a variety
of plants. It drains well and retains enough moisture and nutrients to support
plant growth. It is full of micro and macro nutrients, we may not need to
fertilizer the plants for the present growing season. We can add a bit of mulch
on the top layer to reduce water evaporation during the hottest of times.
Furthermore, as there are many combinations to make nutritional pot mixes, I
will also recommend adding mobilizers ie. Azospirillum, Trichoderma viride,
Pseudomonas, Phosphobacteria and organic potash.
There are other potting mixes for indoor plants, succulent and cactus potting
soil, orchid and bonsai potting mixes. We are not covering them in this article,
as we will stick to terrace gardening.
